





Similipal Tiger Reserve which spreads over 2750 Sq.Kms is a part of Eastern Ghats and Central Indian Landscape. Not only a Tiger Reserve, Similipal is also a National Park, Wildlife Sanctuary, Biosphere Reserve and also a part of Mayurbhanj Elephant Reserve. Similipal derives its name from the abundance of Semul or Red Silk Cotton trees that bloom vividly in its forest. The vast stretches of forest of Similipal is a unique composition of deciduous, semi-ever green, high level Sal, grass land & savannahs. It is the abode of more than 1253 species of flowering plants, 99 species of non-flowering plants, 21 species of amphibians, 62 species of reptiles, 361 species of birds, 55 species of mammals and many species of flora and fauna. Similipal Tiger Reserve located in the northern side of the state is also blessed with majestic waterfalls like Barehipani, Joranda & Uski, Sitakund-Deokund-Bhimkund waterfalls in its periphery, rocky cliffs and green valleys dotted in sylvan Sal forests. It bears 94 species of orchids, many of them are endemic and endangered and 72 are Himalayan species. There are many species of rare, endangered, threatened and vulnerable plants and animals. Spotted Deer,Sambar,Elephants, Hornbill, Chowsingha,Bison,Porcupine,Pangolin,Wildboar,Barking Deer,Jungle Cat, Mouse deer, Giant Squirrel, Flying squirrel, Ruddy mongoose, mugger crocodile and Rufus tailed Hare are examples of this unique biodiversity.Similipal is famous for Tigers and Elephants. It is the only Tiger Reserve in the country to boast of Melanistic Tigers. It alone is the home of 75% Tiger and 25% Elephants of Odisha.

Ecotourists can make night halt in 6 Nature Camps of Similipal located within close proximity of 20 to 30 Kms from each other- Barehipani, Jamuani, Kumari, Gurguria, Ramtirtha & Talabandha Nature Camp.

Day Safari:
Visitors can hire vehicle from Jashipur or Baripada( Pithabata) for Similipal Nature Camps for visiting the waterfalls –Barehipani, Joranda and Uski Waterfall and back to Camp via Chahala where you can see wildlife.

The following concerns regarding the Similipal Tiger Project and tourism are being shared for public awareness.
Day Tourism
1. The Similipal Tiger Reserve will be opened for tourism from October lBth 2025.
2. A maximum of 60 per day four-wheelers with valid vehicle document as per law and with 180 mm or more ground clearaLrce will be allowed to enter the Similipal Tiger Reserve through Jashipur (35 vehicles) and Pithabata Check Gate, Baripada (25 vehicles). Heavy vehicles are not allowed. Tourists in private vehicles will be allowed to enter between 8:00 AM to 9:00 AM at Pithabata gate and between 5:00 AM to 9:00 AM through Jashipur. Tourists have to leave Tiger Reserve through exit gate by 6:00 PM on the same day.
3. Entry Permit for entry into Similipal Sanctuary can be obtained through thewebsite www.similipal.org only. ID proof is required to be shown at entrygate.
4. Before entering the tiger reserve/ tourists will have to give a written undertakingto comply with the existing norms. Any violation of the rules is punishable bylaw.
5. All vehicles, passengers and their luggage will be checked at the entry and exitpoints.
6. All visitors must leave the Joranda and Barehipani waterfalls before 4:00 FM.
7. Tourists will prepare their return journey in such a way that they will cross Check Gate by 6:00 PM on the same day.
8. By violation of Wildlife (Protection) Act, t972, littering of the park, violations ofthe rules by vehicles shall be dealt as per law.
9. The decision to open the Similipal Tiger Reserve for tourism will be monitoredby the authorities of Similipal from time to time and in case of inclement weather conditions the park can be closed.
10. It is mandatory to take a guide with every vehicle while in the Similipal Tiger Reserve.
Ooen Jeep Wildlife Safari (Vehicle deployed by Similipal Tiger Project):
1. The Open Jeep Wildlife Safari is managed by local EDCs ( Eco Development Committee).
2. Tourist for Open Jeep Wildlife Safari in Similipal Tiger Reserve. Bookings must be made through the website www.eeotourodisha,coru.
3. Tourists can start the safari from Gudugudia, Pithabata Check Gate (Baripada), Jamuani Check Gate, Talabandha Check Gate and Barehipani.
4. Morning time wildlife safari will start from 05:30 AM and end in five hours and evening time wildlife safari will start from 2:00 PM and end in four hours.
5. The safari organizers will not be held responsible for any loss, theft, or damage to luggage, wallets, or other personal belongings at any point during the Safari,
6. The decision to open the Similipal Tiger Reserve for tourism will be monitored by the authorities of Similipal from time to time and depending on weather conditions, the Safari can be cancelled
Overniqht tourism:
1. Overnight stay at the tourist lodges at Kumari, Gudgudia, Talabandha, Barehipani and Jamuani of Similipal Tiger Reserve. Bookings must be made in advance on the website www,ecstearodi$ha,cern..
2. Tourists will prepare their return journey in such a way that they will exit the Tiger Reserve by 6:00 PM. Night time m ovement will not be allowed.
